Time for a rant I think. I haven’t had one in a while and I think the need for one is there.
One of the things which I thought was going to happen when I went to university was that my drawing skills would be improved and honed into something that would frankly be epic. The reality of it is that in my two and a bit years at university, my drawing ability has arguably deteriorated due to it being neglected.
Fine fair enough I could have made an effort to keep it up more than I have, but with the amount of non related drawing work I have had to contend with over the past few years, it has been very difficult to find the time to set aside for it. The number of drawing classes or tutorials which we have been told we would get has not materialised. In the face of it, it is really disappointing, especially for a course such as the one we are doing.
I try and do a bit of drawing every day, but due to time constraints, not much is done, and it isn’t what you would call good. The majority of it is doodles which resemble nothing but basic geometric shapes and a variety of animals.
I want to sit down and just draw for a day, but because of the amount of work which is being required to be done over the next five weeks, that isn’t going to be an easy task.
I really don’t know where I was going with this post, but I think the main points are there. I want to do more drawing because since school, I haven’t done much of it at all. The emphasis is on prototyping and the such, but not everyone wants to do that. Some people have their talent in that area, whereas others have theirs in the more visual side of things rather than the practical. I fit into the latter group and I love it, apart from when I cannot do it as much as I want.
To end with, here is something I drew way back in December 2009.
