I am not going to hide the fact that I have not really drawn at all in the past couple of years. Despite being on a product design course at university, the amount of drawing we do to improve our drawing skills much in the way that is considered to be the traditional approach to a course like this, is very little. If that last sentence did not make much sense then I will admit, writing skills have not exactly been looked after very much despite choosing to write a dissertation instead of do the business module when the final year starts and keeping my blog updated over the past 2 years.
Every time I try and sit down to do some drawing, my mind usually just blanks and I cannot think of anything to draw that will actually be of any use so I end up doing random lines or squares. Fine fair enough, you might say that develops basic drawing skills, but in the same way as with any other subject, to be good at it, you need to practice and I find that I haven’t had the chance to because of other things that have been piled on, both from university work and from other things. This might seem as though I am making excuses, but there are other people on the course that feel the same way.
I used to pride myself in my drawing ability, but now I feel ashamed by it. Over the next month or so before I go back to start my final year on a DESIGN course, not an electronics course which is what it apparently seems to be turning into, I am going to make an effort to try and improve my drawing skills. This along with trying to practice electronics and complete my first draft of my dissertation. I am going to try and post my exploits on here and keep this updated as much as possible with both this and the other areas I mentioned. I basically have taken July off doing anything productive, and I am going to change this and hopefully hit the ground running come September when arguably the most important year of my life so far is about to start.
To start things off, sort of, I don’t really consider this to be a start to what I have planned, but I cracked open Sketchbook Express by Autodesk, and my Bamboo, and started to doodle. It is nothing spectacular at the moment and I am not fond of drawing on the size of tablet that I have, but it will do just now.
