Fourth Year: Further Sketches

Here are the decent sketches of the second idea. Done in the same sort of format as the last post. I am not as convinced by this design than the last one but it does have its strong points. Once I have thought about how it is going to work a bit better, I am sure that there will be some changes that will have to be made to it before I can make any firm decisions. But as always time is ticking…

Fourth Year: Some Sketches

First day back and I am hoping that I am going to be hitting the ground running with my work. I am wanting to keep up the momentum that I have built up over the past two weeks with getting work done, making decisions and everything else that is going on with the project. One of the things that I am going to focus on today is the aesthetics of the product. I am sketching out the two ideas and incorporating parts which I had wanted to do in the modelling. Hopefully this afternoon I will be able to look at how it will work a little more and make some headway with that because if I can do what I am hoping to do with it then it will be very exciting.

Anyways,  here is the first of the two that I am going to post. It is the one I am most drawn to out of the two ideas and I think it looks suitably understated and least visually stimulating. This would be essential for it to work better in the bedroom.

A Drawing

I’ll admit that this drawing was done a very long time ago, well last year as its done using my Bamboo, but it remains unfinished and sitting in the Misc folder on my external hard drive.

#184 You have to start somewhere

As I said I was going to do a few weeks ago, I am going to make an effort in improving my drawing skills for going into my final year at University at the start of September. I have started this off with a very, very simple drawing. Unlike the previous doodles that I have posted, this one was done on paper with a pencil, rather than in Autodesk Sketchbook Express on a Wacom Bamboo.

I am hoping that the drawings get much better over the next month…

#182 Some Random Doodlings.

As I mentioned in the previous post, I am wanting to up my drawing game before I head back to university at the start of September. And just like in my post yesterday I have done some random drawings but, these are still not me starting properly with them. Come the first of August I shall be going at it full pelt, as I still have a couple of things that need done between now and then. When I do finally start to get my “drawing on” it will be on paper and not on my computer using my Bamboo as this one is.

#181 Getting Back Into the Groove

I am not going to hide the fact that I have not really drawn at all in the past couple of years. Despite being on a product design course at university, the amount of drawing we do to improve our drawing skills much in the way that is considered to be the traditional approach to a course like this, is very little. If that last sentence did not make much sense then I will admit, writing skills have not exactly been looked after very much despite choosing to write a dissertation instead of do the business module when the final year starts and keeping my blog updated over the past 2 years.

Every time I try and sit down to do some drawing, my mind usually just blanks and I cannot think of anything to draw that will actually be of any use so I end up doing random lines or squares. Fine fair enough, you might say that develops basic drawing skills, but in the same way as with any other subject, to be good at it, you need to practice and I find that I haven’t had the chance to because of other things that have been piled on, both from university work and from other things. This might seem as though I am making excuses, but there are other people on the course that feel the same way.

I used to pride myself in my drawing ability, but now I feel ashamed by it. Over the next month or so before I go back to start my final year on a DESIGN course, not an electronics course which is what it apparently seems to be turning into, I am going to make an effort to try and improve my drawing skills. This along with trying to practice electronics and complete my first draft of my dissertation. I am going to try and post my exploits on here and keep this updated as much as possible with both this and the other areas I mentioned. I basically have taken July off doing anything productive, and I am going to change this and hopefully hit the ground running come September when arguably the most important year of my life so far is about to start.

To start things off, sort of, I don’t really consider this to be a start to what I have planned, but I cracked open Sketchbook Express by Autodesk, and my Bamboo, and started to doodle. It is nothing spectacular at the moment and I am not fond of drawing on the size of tablet that I have, but it will do just now.

#157 More IOGraphs

Some more IOGraphs. The first one is 2.1 hours, done last night. Just light internet browsing:

The next one is 6.5 hours worth from almost a whole days worth of computering. I turned the mouse stops off (the circles in the other IOGraphs) and it gives a different kind of image all together. Activities on this one included some light photoshopping, and light internet browsing. I turned the background on whilst saving it too so you can roughly see where abouts on the screen I was moving a bit clearer.

#107 Spåra Mig

Small update to say that I have set up a tumblr (shocker), to track daily, random musing through photographs. They are nothing important, just if I see something that I like and I use Instagram to upload it.
