#177 Rocket Robin

Another blast from the past (I guess there was no pun intended there). I did these a good few years ago, about the time when they did that Reliant Robin Space Shuttle piece on Top Gear. It was done so long ago I was still using GIMP (Gnu Image Manipulation Program) and not photoshop. The basic robin rocket shape was from an image on the Top Gear website and I added the background, the SRB’s and the other rockety bits. I am sure if I tried to do this again, I would come up with a better outcome, but it isn’t bad the way it is just now…

#166 Candle Holder

Another thing I made in school, and by the title you can tell we made a lot of ‘holders’ in school. This candle holder was very simply made by taking a sheet of brass and bending it to the required shape. A section of copper pipe was cut in order to have somewhere to hold the candle, and using a brazing hearth, it was attached to the main bit of the candle holder.

The final step of the product was to add the lead strips. These were completely superficial and at the time, I thought they looked quite good, but now, I keep thinking, what would they look like if they weren’t there? I should also point out, that from what I can remember, I was one of only a few people in the class that used copper instead of the brass that was also available. This was probably because I think the copper looks so much better than brass. There you go, a purely aesthetic decision right there.

#165 Pencil Holder

This is one of the best things that I have ever made, and I made it at school. It is a pencil holder and its form hints at old cigar shaped racing cars. I am still very pleased with it and 7 or so years on from when I made it, it still looks good.

#156 Palm Runner Holder

I have been doing a bit of tidying up and I found something I had completely forgotten about. It is a stand for my (now not working) Kyosho Palm Runner. I made it in school and it is still in quite good condition.

Made in second year at High School it consists of a single piece of acrylic that has had a rectangular hole cut out of it then formed by heating it on a strip heater and folding it around a mould. It works perfectly if you put the car on first. If you put the controller on first, it topples over, though that is a flaw that would be solved if I had put a smaller radius on the bottom corner and had used a slightly longer piece of material.

#155 Preparing the Work

Preparing for some photoshopping isn’t always the easiest of things to do especially when you are working to a tight deadline. The last piece of work I did, I decided to plan it out a bit better than I normally do so I printed off the images I was going to be changing and drew the alterations on before I started work. It did, in short, make the whole process easier and to an extent a lot quicker. Here are some pictures of the planning of the Lamborghini Aventador SV:

#147 Keeping the Bamboo Cosy

In the midst of finishing off some university work and whilst I still had the sewing machine out, I decided to make a case for my Wacom Bamboo. I had been wanting one for a while and only just got around to making it as I found I had some spare denim left over from the project last semester. It just so happened I made one at the same time as someone else made one (here)… but luckily their one was different, so good job.

I might upload a pattern so you can easily make one if I get around to doing that and perfecting the one I made, but that might be a while off yet.

#144 Don’t Know What I Was Trying To Achieve…

In the same theme as the last post, I have been doing something relating to F1 and Red Bull Racing. But if I’m honest, I think the last one is great compared to this… I don’t quite know what I was trying to achieve this this one. Anyways…

#99 ProDESKTOP iPod Mini

Another bit of work I did during school, albeit when I was finished all the work we were supposed to do, so a side project if you will. I took my iPod Mini and a ruler and sat down to recreate it in ProDESKTOP, the 3d modelling package used at school. I am rather pleased with the way it turned out, especially since it was all done as one component, a method which certainly was frowned upon. I as sure I had rendered versions, making it look exactly like the Blue 1st generation model, but I must not have saved them as jpegs. Acht well.

#92 Quattro is done

In a push to get all the fun things done on my to do list before university work becomes just a bit too much, I managed to get the Audi Quattro I was working on finished, and in good time too. It took a bit longer than the Escort, but this one was much more detailed.
