#173 A Mclaren Blueprint Pt.III

Another update to what I am doing with the Mclaren Blueprint. This time I am toying with the idea of making it like a technical drawing. I am still looking at doing the camera one which shows where cameras are usually located in racing games but I seem to have hit a dead end with that one at the moment.

This one was done very quickly using the raw ‘blueprint’ outline I got from the internet, if I took this one forward, I would go round the car in Illustrator as per my others:

#171 A Mclaren Blueprint Pt.II

Small update on the Mclaren, it is still a work in progress, and the idea is coming along nicely albeit a bit clunky…

Meanwhile the Mclaren I posted up last time is now my iMac desktop wallpaper.

#170 A Mclaren Blueprint

A quick something that I have done, in preparation for another idea I am working on and have had for a while. Coincidentally, this has become another contender to be put on canvas…

#147 Keeping the Bamboo Cosy

In the midst of finishing off some university work and whilst I still had the sewing machine out, I decided to make a case for my Wacom Bamboo. I had been wanting one for a while and only just got around to making it as I found I had some spare denim left over from the project last semester. It just so happened I made one at the same time as someone else made one (here)… but luckily their one was different, so good job.

I might upload a pattern so you can easily make one if I get around to doing that and perfecting the one I made, but that might be a while off yet.

#142 iPad to PS3

The other day I was thinking, as you do, and it came across me, why can’t you use an idevice such as an iPhone or iPad to control basic functions of a PS3? A bit of a random thought I know, but using one as a remote would give more functionality than a standard controller.

The way I see it would work (and I have googled to see if it has already been done and as far as I’m aware, it hasn’t), is that it would be in app form. It would be loaded up and connect via either bluetooth or wifi to the PlayStation. Almost acting as a secondary display, an XMB (cross media bar) would be displayed on the iPad screen, all the usual gestures would be usable and the functions could be used. It wouldn’t be able to be used to play games with, but it would make sense if it could be used to view images, play music or play video with good playback functionality.

Using the standard PS3 controller for media functions on a PS3 can get a bit confusing, and not many users would be willing to fork out for a specific media remote for it. The number of users who have iDevices is pretty much at 100 million at the moment, and the app would be available to all, and in my opinion, something which could be quite popular.

Here is something I quickly knocked up to show what I mean, even if it just looks as though it is a secondary screen…

#127 Can you tell what it is yet? …Yes, it’s a Volvo

Just a quick something I’ve knocked up and in the progress of doing amongst sorting out the minimal amount of work we have this term. A lovely Volvo in S60 form. Based on a photo I took last week, and no joke, that is the actual number plate that I saw on that car.

#95 NCR Boards

Part of the main product design module this semester was for the NCR Student Competition, held with a number of Product Design Courses at Universities in Scotland. Having been one of the ones chosen to go through and present at the final event, I pulled out due to the amount of other work that was needing to have been done for the course at that particular time (amongst other reasons).

The following boards show what my final idea was. The basic concept was for those living in rural india to be able to record, share and view other videos on a device aimed at helping those with their own small business advertise themselves to try and increase their income. It was called RECORD.

#92 Quattro is done

In a push to get all the fun things done on my to do list before university work becomes just a bit too much, I managed to get the Audi Quattro I was working on finished, and in good time too. It took a bit longer than the Escort, but this one was much more detailed.

#91 Fire up the Quattro

My next side project as requested by a Mr Lynch is an Audi Quattro. It wasn’t specified if it was to be in Group B or Ashes to Ashes flavour so I opted for my favourite of the two, the Group B monster. I am putting in more detail into this one compared to the Escort and it is looking quite good so far.

#86 Escort

Just for a piece of fun, I have started to do a bit of drawing using my Wacom Bamboo. The subject? A Mk.II Ford Escort in rally spec. The leviathan of 2 wheel drive rallying is an icon, and it is a handsome beast which sounds rather wonderful too.

Here is what I have done so far, a cullmination of about 5 hours of work so far, but there is plenty that is still to be done.

I am still learning to use the Bamboo and I am getting more and more used to it every time I use it which is helpful. I still can’t do selections properly with it in photoshop so resort to using the mouse, but I’m sure it’ll be figured out sometime.
